Healthcare is crucial within the US as minorities are statistically more vulnerable to getting a disease. However, they are less likely to receive preventative care and it causes health disparities. Nurse practitioners can play an essential role in identifying, understanding, and responding to barriers such as race and ethnicity since both prevent people from having the equal opportunity to be as healthy as possible. Advocating for their patients is one of the most effective ways for nurses to eliminate health inequities. Advocating for patient rights, proper resources, interpreters, distress screening, or even cultural-competence training in the workplace are all examples of this (Cirigliano, 2022).
