One aspect of graduate study that I expect to present the greatest challenge is the rigorous academic workload. Graduate level courses are often more intense and require a greater level of critical thinking and self-directed learning. Additionally, the expectation for independent research and the creation of original work can be a significant challenge, as it requires a high degree of initiative and self-motivation. Furthermore, the high level of competition and the need to constantly strive for academic excellence can be mentally and emotionally demanding. Overall, I anticipate that the demands of graduate study will challenge me to push myself academically and personally. I am eager to undertake this challenge in order to attain my master’s degree.
In order to combat the rigorous workload, I employ a system of setting learning goals, identifying resources and actively seeking out opportunities to acquire new knowledge or skills. This includes attending learning workshops and small group study sessions. I value these resources as they help reinforce self-accountability by identifying areas of improvement while tracking my academic progress. On a daily basis, I find it beneficial to make a plan, prioritize important tasks and eliminate potential distractions in order to meet deadlines. Making significant progress towards my goal each day helps to ensure that my workload is managed effectively.
I find my motivation in surrounding myself with positive people from *medically related clubs* (can this be worded better?), attending seminars and learning directly from other medical professionals including EMTs, doctors and professors. Being in the presence of accomplished professionals in the medical field through activities such as shadowing and scribing, as well as attending conferences, drives me to achieve my career aspirations while reflecting on current practices.
Further to this, having a work-life balance contributes to mental and emotional wellbeing. I am passionate about rugby and use a stress buster reward system where I allow myself an exercise session in the weight room. A phone call with friends also allows me to destress and archive my weekly goals.
